L<\/span>he village of Cefal\u00f9 is one of the most beautiful in Sicily. \n A place of outstanding artistic, cultural and historical interest, it is a melting pot of cultures: it has ancient origins dating back to prehistoric times, owes its current name to the Greeks and the layout of its historic centre to successive Roman, Byzantine, Arab and Norman dominations.<\/p>\n

Characterised by narrow streets paved with the pebbles of the beach and the limestone of the Cefal\u00f9 rock, it represents the traditional Sicilian seaside village where the beauty of the landscape and nature intertwine with some of the oldest traditions. From an architectural point of view, numerous palaces, churches, monasteries and chapels embellishing the town: the most striking is undoubtedly the cathedral-fortress built by Roger II<\/strong> in 1131, which stands imposingly in the main square.<\/p>\n

Considered the \"gateway to the Madonie Mountains\", Cefal\u00f9 is famous for its broad golden beach, just a few minutes\u2019 walk from the town centre<\/strong>, which offers exceptional scenery: views of the fortress, the cathedral and the old port. The crystal-clear sea bed and, at the same time, the convenience of reaching the numerous establishments make the beach suitable for families with children.<\/p>\n

Much more than a seaside village<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

There is no shortage of traditions, which, as is often the case in Sicily, have a significant meaning for the locals: this is the case with the festival of the patron saint San Salvatore.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most important day of the festival is 6 August. The morning is marked by celebrations, while the characteristic game of the 'Ntinna a mari takes place in the afternoon. The 'ntinna is a pole sprinkled with animal fat and soap, placed horizontally on the sea. The flag of the Holy Saviour is set at the end of the rod, and the game aims to catch it. A rope is tied to the 'ntinna, which some workers skilfully manoeuvre to make the game more challenging.<\/p>\n

The competitors are always many, and the comic implications are numerous! In addition to the innumerable falls into the sea, there is no shortage of strange disguises that add a touch of goliardia to the experience!<\/p>\n
