Wakes of saline water, steep cliffs, sand dunes that are home to excellent plant and animal life, a dream beach. This and much more awaits you at the “laghetti di Marinello nature reserve”, an enchanting place located in the centre of the Gulf of Patti and Milazzo, along the Tyrrhenian coast of north-eastern Sicily.

A subtle, centuries-old balance between sea currents and sea storms, which modify - sometimes drastically - the beach line, destroying, creating or modifying the characteristic structures present in the lagoon. Because of this, the number and shape of the small lakes present change constantly with time. In this period there are four small lakes: Marinello, Verde, Mergolo della Tonnara and Porto Vecchio.

“Due to their particular conformation, the small lakes of Marinello offer shelter to some species of birds that are now sedentary and are an ideal resting place for many migratory birds. Today, they are the only example of coastal lagoons existing along the Tyrrhenian margin of the island. Because of their rapid and continuous physical evolution, the salty lakes and the sandy bank constitute a natural environment of great scientific interest.

If you want to spend a relaxing day by the sea on a quiet beach and, at the same time, enjoy the wonder of a nature reserve, this is the place for you!

If you are also a trekking enthusiast, the reserve magically becomes an itinerary for all seasons: a two-hour route, not at all demanding, will take you to the discovery of breath-taking landscapes!

Our advice is to discover the reserve in both its guises, recommending that you respect nature and safeguard the delicate balance of the lagoon system.
